Valentine's Day Messages:
I like your lips, I like your style
But most of all I like your smile.
Let soft love beaming from thine eyes
Speak rapture to my heart.
Plenty of love,
Tons of kisses,
Hope some day
To be your Mrs.
I ever will in you remain,
So let your heart return again.
May every blessing be thy lot,
I only ask "Forget Me Not."
Thy sparkling eyes of blackest jet
Have lured me into Cupid's net.
Your eyes are blue,
Your heart is true,
Your lips divine
When they met mine.
More closely bound than friend or brother,
One cannot live without the other.
Roses are red
Violets are blue
Carnations are sweet
And so are you.
Roses are red
Violets are blue
In my life
There's a place for you.
Accept, Dear Girl, this loving heart of mine,
And be my fashionable valentine.
My love is like a cabbage
Divided into two,
The leaves I give to others
But the heart I give to you.
I bet you a cuddle, I bet you a kiss
I bet you'll never guess who sent you this.
Cupid by the comet's blaze,
Set Lovers' hearts on fire.
When days are dark and friends are few,
Remember me as I do you.
Kisses spread disease, it's stated.
Kiss me quick! I'm vaccinated.
My darling girl
My chosen one,
I dream of you
And you alone.
If this sender you can name
All these kisses you can claim.
Valentine, O Valentine,
I'll be your love and you'll be mine.
Valentine's Day Tradition: February 14
It's believed that Valentine's Day had its beginnings in the Lupercalia — an ancient Roman festival celebrated February 15 to ensure fertility for the people, the fields, and the flocks. Roses Las Vegas NV
During the Lupercalia, early Roman men often wore the names of young women who were to be their partners pinned to their sleeves. Hence the saying, "wearing your heart on your sleeve."
When the Roman Empire wars broke out, married men didn't want to leave their families while younger men didn't want to leave their sweethearts. As a result of the low numbers of men willing to fight in the wars, Claudius the Cruel ordered that no more marriages or engagements take place.
Valentine, a priest, defied the order and married young couples in secrecy. When Claudius found out about this, he had Valentine dragged off and imprisoned, where he later died.
What Valentine did for young lovers was never forgotten. His legacy is still celebrated each February 14 on St. Valentine's Day. The tradition continues with flowers, heart-shaped candies, and lacy valentines that celebrate love, while honoring the man — Valentine — who dared disobey Claudius the Cruel all those years ago.

Origin & History
Fossil evidence shows that roses have existed since prehistoric times. The first cultivated roses appeared in Asian gardens more than 5,000 years ago. Roses were introduced to Europe during the Roman Empire, where they were mainly used for ornamental purposes. Cleopatra is said to have scattered rose petals before Mark Anthony's feet; Nero released roses from the ceiling during extravagant feasts and banquets.
Sentiment & Symbolism
Roses, it is said, blushed with shame as God expelled Adam and Eve out of the Garden of Eden. According to Roman legend, a number of suitors were keen on marrying a beautiful woman named Rodanthe, but she did not care for any of them. Despite her ambivalence, the suitors continued to woo Rodanthe so zealously that they broke through the doors of her home. Angered by their actions and wanting to teach the suitors a lesson, the goddess Diana turned Rodanthe into a rose, and her suitors into thorns.
The rose is the flower emblem of England. According to English superstition, if the petals fall from a fresh-cut red rose, bad luck will soon follow. The red rose is the badge of the House of Lancaster and the flower of Eros and Cupid. In Wales, the white rose represents innocence and silence, and is thus placed on the grave of a young child. To Native Americans, the white rose symbolizes security and happiness, and is often worn during wedding ceremonies. The white rose is the badge of the House of York and the flower of the Virgin Mary.
